As volunteers, we supplement the work done by the commercial landscapers without incurring additional costs. We recently participated in an advisory capacity under the leadership of Mary Schwartz, to work in the sump on Circle Drive that is important in the mosquito control and drainage, performed volunteer weeding in areas near the cliff and the hillside area below Beach Road leading down to the sound. It was estimated that the 2015 weeding program saved approximately $4,000 in landscape services fees. Some of the ideas that we are considering for next year include: reduction of invasive plants and native plant restoration, i.e., returning certain areas to native plants and trees. We are always looking for neighbors to join our group. People may contribute as much or as little work as they want, and we always ask for ideas that might be implemented over the next few years.
